During this webinar we will define intellectual property law, distinguish the difference between a copyright, a patent, and a trademark, and describe trade secrets. We will also discuss how to recognize the criteria for filing copyright, patent, and trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. We will also discuss the following information:

  • Know the duration of protection for intellectual property. 
  • Understand why protection of intellectual property is important.
  • Identify the statutes that apply to intellectual property law, i.e., The Copyright Act, The Patent Act, and the Lanham Act.
  • Explain the terms “infringement” and “misappropriation.” 
  • Learn how to avoid infringing on others’ rights.
  • Determine the international agreements that govern intellectual property.
