Many paralegals dread their annual performance review because they feel that it does not make a difference in their year-end bonus or salary increase. Can it be that a lack of enthusiasm is evident in your performance review meeting due to limited preparation? A performance review is an opportunity for you to assess not only your own accomplishments and experiences, but to provide feedback on your future role in your firm or legal department. During the performance review, a prepared paralegal is able to communicate that he or she is an effective member of the legal team and a profit center to the organization. When you learn to track your job performance and establish thoughtful, constructive goals, the result will be a positive and beneficial review meeting. Taking a proactive attitude demonstrates that you are knowledgeable of the firm/company business and aware of your value to your employer.
