Part 1 will discuss the definition of Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) and recognize the difference between an MDL and a class action – including which types of cases are more suited for each. This session will also cover the process of how a case becomes part of an MDL including becoming familiar with the Judicial Panel on MDL. A discussion on how the Steering Committees are formed and how your attorney being selected will have a major impact on your role as his/her paralegal.

After this session, you should be more knowledgeable about Case Management Orders, time-keeping, and other initial pleadings once the MDL is formed.
