Job Summary: 

Estate Recovery and Casualty Caseworker 

The Caseworker is responsible for management, and settlement of casualty and estate cases involving State of Colorado Medicaid clients or deceased Medicaid clients.

General Functions and Duties:

Estate Recovery

  • Investigate, review, and compile information from multiple sources/referrals for case start-up.
  • Effectively work, maintain and manage numerous cases, performing document review and paying close attention to deadlines and prioritizing workload
  • Interface effectively with attorneys, court staff, personal representatives of estates, and family members.
  • Must be able to manage phone and written inquiries and have the ability to solicit and obtain needed information, clarify any responses and address all concerns.
  • Prepare necessary correspondence, liens, claims, and other documents.
  • Perform administrative and other duties as assigned.
  • Train others as needed

Casualty

  • Review, and compile information from multiple sources/referrals for case startup
  • Effectively work, maintain and manage numerous cases
  • Ability to pay close attention to deadlines and prioritizing workload for effective case management
  • Review medical claims histories and associate claims related to the trauma
  • Interface effectively with attorneys, insurance adjusters and medical providers.
  • Prepare necessary correspondence, liens, and other documents.
  • Perform administrative and other duties as assigned.
  • Train others as needed
Requirements or Qualifications: 

Skill Requirements:

  • Paralegal, customer service or case management experience in a professional environment
  • Computer literacy including MS Office products
  • Data entry/typing skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to handle conflict appropriately and professionally interacting with all segments of the populations
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain filing system
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Prior experience in legal field a plus
  • Knowledge of civil and/or probate procedures, rules and statutes a plus.  
  • Familiarity with Medicaid rules and regulations a plus. 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical billing a plus. 
  • Insurance experience a plus
  • Investigation experience a plus. 

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as legal files, business correspondence and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and business correspondence; ability to speak effectively, both in person and by telephone, to customers, attorneys, arbitrators, mediators and employees of the organization.
