Description:
Prepares certified administrative record for U.S. Federal Court or U.S. District Court, screens claim files for completeness, proper jurisdiction, and other designated elements – the HHS Office of General Counsel (OGC) has requested expedited processing of certified administrative records in cases appealed to Federal District Court – for that reason, additional dedicated resources are hereby requested; dockets new appeals in the electronic case filing system MODACTS and/or e-Filing system; contacts HHS contractors to obtain ALJ claim files and/or retrieving electronic ALJ file from HHS secure server downloading document(s) to the Medicare Appeals File; converting AAJ final action documents into PDF format utilizing Adobe Pro and uploading to MODACTS and/or e-Filing system; and other paralegal duties as assigned from Program Support Branch Chief in the MOD Division.

Key Requirements:  
Equivalent combinations of post high school education and specialized experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position(s) to be filled. Knowledge of paralegal methods, practices, and procedures. Ability to analyze issues and apply laws and regulations to facts presented. Typing and formatting correspondence and legal forms; Ability to effectively work in a high energy office. Proficient in operating a personal computer and in using various Word Processing Software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Pro. Demonstrated finance experience in reviewing expenditures, ordering supplies, and preparing training and supply requisitions. Ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) as require.
Cases may involve complex issues of law, such as appeals arising from overpayment determinations, non- sample audits, or statistical sampling extrapolations involving thousands of claims and extremely high monetary amounts. Some cases, particularly those filed by enrollees in a Medicare Advantage plan, require an expedited review due to the pre-service nature of the benefits at issue (e.g., pre-service authorization for services or procedures or authorization for prescription drugs).
•    Full-Time – Temporary Appointment Not-Exceeding 2-Years from Date of Award. Tour– Arrive between 7AM and 9:30AM, depart between 3:30PM and 6PM.
•    Work Days – Monday through Friday only.
