The Legal Division of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal.  This position is located in the NAIC’s state-of-the-art offices in Town Pavilion in the heart of downtown Kansas City which includes great restaurants and top-notch entertainment venues. This is a full-time position in a positive and flexible environment. 

 Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as coordinator of the NAIC model laws program and serves as editor of the NAIC Model Laws, Regulations and Guidelines; maintains and updates publication on a trimester basis; reviews and edits drafts of model laws, regulations and guidelines as drafted by committees, task forces, and working groups and provides drafting assistance as needed; updates state adoption charts based on thorough research; and assists in preparing legislative histories regarding such models.
  • Performs accurate research on model laws, regulatory matters and other issues using: Westlaw, Lexis Nexis; Wolters Kluwer; NILS, CQ State Track and Practical Law, among others.
  • Tracks pending and adopted NAIC model law legislation/regulations. 
  • Prepares and gives presentations to committee staff support, regulators and others, explaining the model law process and providing updates on model law activity. 
  • Updates Model Law Handbook and related documents as necessary.
  • Assists attorneys in the preparation of amicus briefs including performing research, obtaining court rules and procedures, proofreading and formatting, and preparing certificates of service.
  • Performs legislative and case law research on regulatory legal issues.
