Job Summary:

The Director of Legal Professionals oversees the paralegal program in all offices. The Director must be collaborative, proactive, and committed to serving as a single-point-of contact for practice group leaders to access necessary firm resources. The Director of Legal Professionals will report to the firm’s Executive Director. Position responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Program Management • Plan and develop the strategic direction for the firm’s para-professional • Implement the organizational strategic planning • Manage daily operations including allocation of resources; allocate resources between offices • Coordinate utilization of paralegals for client projects • Develop training and mentoring programs for better performance and utilization of the paralegals and professional staff; oversee training initiatives; create individualized training plans for paralegals and paralegal assistants • Plan and execute bi-annual team building and educational overnight conference • Manage CLE and other group related requests • Serve as a liaison between practice group leaders, firm departments, and the leadership team • Coordinate relationships with outside vendors and service providers • Monitor legal industry trends; hold roundtable sessions to discuss trends impacting the paralegal profession • Manage annual paralegal memorial scholarship • Oversee and participate in the Firm eDiscovery committee • Quarterly travel to outer offices Personnel Management • Interview, hire and orient new paralegals and paralegal assistants; conduct full cycle recruiting efforts to include resume review, screening, interviewing, due diligence, and salary recommendations. • Coordinate with Office Administrators to conduct performance evaluations of the paralegals and paralegal assistants • With coordination with Office Administrators recommend Paralegal Assistants for promotion to Paralegal as appropriate • In coordination with the Director of HR, assist with confidential investigation and resolution of human resources related issues to include coaching, written disciplinary action, performance improvement plans, and terminations. • Provide coaching and guidance to up-and-coming paralegals and new paralegals starting their career Financial Management • Monitor productivity of the paralegals and paralegal assistants • Directly assist with compensation planning • Monitor and manage overtime, hours/workloads and suggest creative staffing approaches • Investigate write-offs and make suggestions for improvement • Conduct profitability, realization, and return on investment analysis for the para-professional group The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of relevant work experience at a law firm with a solid understanding of the legal industry. A Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree is required. The individual will also possess strong leadership, relationship and organizational skills.
