We are seeking a Senior Paralegal to join our Employment & Labor Law Center of Excellence in our Legal Department in our offices in Neenah, Wisconsin.

Job Responsibilities:
• Assist attorneys and other paralegals as part of an attorney/paralegal team providing strategic legal advice on employment & labor legal matters, plus work directly with members of the business team, Human Resources, Global Security, Risk Management and others
• Investigate, prepare documents, and gather evidence relating to administrative claims of discrimination, labor arbitrations, or other legal claims
• Coordinate with outside counsel on management of employment and labor legal matters
• Conduct legal research; draft and review memoranda and other documents
• Keep informed of current laws, regulations and proposals in a variety of areas
• Assist in the development of legal presentations and conduct such legal presentations for clients
• Prioritize, balance, and coordinate workload with other paralegals
• Interact with professionals outside the company including outside lawyers, customers, vendors, and government and non-government agencies and organizations
• Assist in the development of employment & labor law best practices and process improvements
• Develop understanding of employment & labor laws globally and provide support to attorneys
• Lead complex employment & labor law projects
• Participate in the development and execution of a global labor & employment law Center of Excellence

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college/university or Paralegal studies (Associate’s degree or certification).
• 7+ years of experience as a Paralegal in an in-house or law firm or equivalent relevant experience.
• Detail oriented.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Personal accountability for work and work product; willing and able to follow through on complex issues.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a business-oriented service disposition.
• Ability to make decisions and inspire client confidence in work product and judgment.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Employment & labor law experience, preferably global
• Strong project management skills
• Computer research and investigation skills
• In-house legal experience.
• Experience in Human Resources or legal support of Human Resources

The Social Compliance Analyst/Paralegal will develop, enhance and maintain effective operation of our corporate social compliance (CSC) assessments and related data management systems. Provide CSC team with supporting analytics including the creation and issuance of various reports. Write audit operating guides and training. Work with third party sources to assess and improve audit firm quality and performance. Provide additional paralegal services on employment/labor topics including global labor relations.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide oversight of third-party auditors to ensure audit accuracy and timeliness.
2. Manage audit violation remediation process by highlighting audit report issues to supplier and working directly with supplier to create and timely implement remediation plan.
3. Continually develop and implement enhancements to the CSC process to improve team productivity, reporting and system integrity.
4. Establish and maintain our company wide CSC data, monthly audit volume and immediate notification reporting systems.
5. Work with third party service provider to train, measure and improve performance.
6. Provide Account Management support to third-party auditors.
7. Provide ad hoc analysis and support to team members.
8. Design and operate external website, internal SharePoint sites.
9. Network/benchmark with multi-national CPG companies’ CSC work.
10. Provide additional paralegal services on employment/labor topics including global labor relations.

Other Factors:
•Communications: Frequent interaction with account managers to senior leaders of third party service providers and entire CSC team. Deals across all functions globally at staff to mid-manager level. Write documentation to guide third party performance, which are widely distributed to system, suppliers and are published on Company website (Supplier Audit Guide, as an example). Reports are viewed throughout the Company and at the most senior levels.
•Analysis: While the core work is well defined, it needs oversight, troubleshooting and capacity building with internal and external organizations. This position is expected to continually look for and implement improvements in effectiveness and productivity in our data and analytics areas.
•Judgment/Decision-making: The role makes decisions related to what is an audit violation, how best to remediate that violation, data system operations and makes recommendations to the Director for enhancements, reporting and account management opportunities..
Innovation: Working with our system and supply chain the role continually seeks new and more efficient / effective ways of conducting due diligence, grievance mechanisms and overcoming location compliance barriers. Development of new practices in the area of dealing with fraud, contract worker assessment and engaging NGOs making serious allegations.
•Supervisory: Individual contributor role. However, provide supervisory role in management of third party providers.
•Reporting: Reports to Associate General Counsel – Employment & Labor Law Center of Excellence, dotted line to Director of Corporate Social Compliance.


Skills:
1. Understanding of human and workplace rights principles and standards including the ability to understand and work with local / applicable laws.
2. Understanding of social compliance assessment processes other due diligence paths and grievance mechanisms.
3. Understanding database operations and to be able to seek out enhancements.
4. Improve others’ understanding or find new opportunities / risks through keen analytical skills.
5. Innovation skills to develop process improvements and solutions to new issues.
6. Training and development skills to build capacity with the audit provider.
7. Strong technical writing skills for manuals, guides and SharePoint site.
8. General paralegal skills.

Basic Qualifications:
• Associate’s degree or paralegal certificate (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
• 3+ years of relevant experience.

Join the Office Depot Team - Commercial Real Estate Paralegal

Office Depot, Inc. has an immediate opening for a full time commercial real estate paralegal at its global headquarters located in Boca Raton, Florida. This position will support internal real estate counsel in a variety of roles primarily related to retail leasing, including drafting detailed and complex real estate legal documents for attorney review; preparing and presenting lengthy lease agreements for execution by officers of the company; and providing legal advice (under the supervision of internal counsel) to other departments within the company on a variety of retail lease issues.

The ideal candidate should have three or more years experience in commercial real estate law, an ABA approved Paralegal Certification or an Associate’s Degree, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a fast paced environment without sacrificing quality. Proficiency in MicroSoft Word required.
