NALA Membership Forum
1:15 - 4:30 p.m. Thursday

Member involvement is the focus of the forum this year.  There will be a "Volunteer Fair" with each NALA committee represented at tables with committee members available to chat with those considering volunteering for NALA service.

Information regarding various projects will be shared by members of NALA Board of Directors, the Professional Development Committee, and Continuing Education Council, as well as the Certifying Board and Advanced Paralegal Certification Board.  This forum is a good warm up for the annual membership meeting on Friday.  Bring your business cards for one-to-one networking, and be prepared to participate in a candidates forum to share ideas and learn about NALA officer candidates.  Candidates will make formal presentations and answer questions from the floor.

There will also be special presentations by three groups from the 2007-08 inaugural "LEAP Year" and members of the new 2008-09 class will be announced.  There has been much anticipation of these presentations which are the culmination of year-long efforts by all five groups of LEAP participants.  The remaining two groups from the 2007-08 class will make presentations on Friday.

Arrive early enough to check in and register so you can vote at this important meeting. The strength of NALA lies with members who take an active interest in the goals, direction, and programs which serve the interests of the profession and the association's membership. The election of officers and voting on bylaw amendments and proposed resolutions are your opportunities to have a say in NALA's direction and to learn what makes NALA among the strongest of professional associations.

The NALA Board of Directors will be recommending amendments to the NALA Bylaws for the membership's consideration on August 1.  Information about the proposed amendments appears on the NALA web site, Members Page.

Members will also be voting on candidates for NALA officers. This includes the NALA First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  Information about the candidates may also be found on the Members Page.

The following national awards will be conferred during this meeting:

  • NALA Founders' Award

  • NALA President's Award

  • Affiliated Associations National Achievement Award

  • Affiliated Associations Outstanding Contribution Award

A reception in honor of these award recipients and the 2008-09 board of directors will take place following the meeting (from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.)

NALA Board Meetings

The NALA Board of Directors meets twice during the NALA convention. The Friday meeting is the last meeting of the fiscal year and the Annual meeting of the Board. Saturday's meeting is the first meeting of the new year.  This is the first meeting in which newly elected officers and board members participate.
